We’re always looking for ways to make our lives a little easier. Finding a shortcut to bypass traffic, browsing those “home hacks” for washing dishes quickly, or cramming an ab work-out into 10 minutes are all things we do to buy us time and save us stress. Have you ever thought of using your smartphone to help make your day a little less stressful?
Enter IFTTT formulas. For those of you who aren’t familiar, IFTTT stands for “If This Then That”, an automated formula that instructs your connected services or devices (like your email or smartphone) to perform specific tasks in a program as a response to an activity. In IFTTT land, we refer to programs as channels: Instagram, email, Dropbox, Twitter and many more. You might have caught yourself doing some mindless, repetitious task at work or on social media and thought: “There’s got to be an easier way.” and there is! You can turn on your IFTTT formula or “recipe” to trigger a specific service to help simplify your life.
A recipe is a combination of 2 channels, using a “trigger” and an “action”, so, when one thing happens on one channel, it triggers an action on the second channel. One very simple example of this is if you use Facebook and Twitter as your channels, whenever you change your profile picture on Facebook, it triggers your Twitter picture to change, as well.
So, how can you make a recipe? Firstly, you’ll need to start an account with IFTTT. From there, you can choose which channels, triggers and actions you want to create. Here are some great recipes you can try to help make things just a little bit easier on you.
- Automatically add your iPhone screenshots to DropBox.
- Wake up call (‘cause that alarm is just going to snooze itself)
- Can’t find your phone? Send yourself an email and get a call!
- Wondering where that package is? Save tracking information in your calendar.
