Want to play Christmas music in every room when you have holiday guests? Or, need some motivational punk pop when you’re cleaning up the house before you have guests?
With a few easy steps, you can play music on all (or some) of your Alexa-enabled speakers. Basically, all you need to do is create a speaker group that includes Alexa speakers or third party enabled devices such as Sonos One or the Polk Command Bar. You can even mix and match which devices are grouped together.
The most common examples we see are speaker groups that are designated by the area they’re located in. You could create a “Downstairs” group, for doing laundry and cleaning up the playroom. Get creative! If you enjoy hosting dinner parties, make an “Dance floor” speaker group that covers your living room, and backyard patio speakers.
How to create an Alexa speaker group
- Open the Alexa Mobile App
- Tap the menu button in the top corner
- Tap Settings, then Device Settings
- Tap Add Multi-Room Music Speaker, then Continue
Now you can get creative and choose a name for you speaker group. Keep in mind that Alexa must be able to hear it clearly, so pick something easy to say. Tap Next once you’ve chosen the perfect name.
The next step is to add speakers to the newly created group. On the next screen, a list of compatible speakers will be shown. After you picked which speakers you want to be in the group, tap Done.
Now you can sit back and say “Alexa, play Let it Snow on Spotify everywhere”, or “Alexa play Beyonce on the dance floor” to hear your favorite music broadcast throughout your home.
