The Next Level of Security: Two-Factor Authentication
As our digital world evolves, hackers continue to find ways to outsmart our IT systems to wreak havoc on our lives. They’re becoming more advanced and experts say passwords alone — regardless of the extra characters, numbers and symbols — are not enough to keep your data secure. To protect against security breaches, we’ve seen a rise of platforms begin to push enrolling in two-factor authentication login.
Two-factor authentication is an electronic authentication method in which a device user is granted access to a website or application only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of evidence to an authentication mechanism. This can be done in several ways such as an authentication application like DuoMobile or Authenticator, phone number verification or email verification.
The point is that if someone’s going to steal your information and impersonate your login, they’re going to have to really prove they’re you thanks to this extra level of protection. While two-factor authentication isn’t foolproof against hackers, it’s sure to elevate your data protection against hostile attackers.
Extra Security Measures
While two-factor authentication adds extra fortification to your private data — it still doesn’t shake the importance of having a password manager as well. Password managers are applications that store data such as credentials, logins and passwords in an encrypted database. Most password manager applications even help you create strong, hard-to-guess passwords using a random generator. Stop relying on memory and organize your information in one secure place with a password manager!
Hackers never get tired of trying to steal your passwords and private information. Make a habit of regularly changing your passwords every 90 days or at a minimum of at least once a year as an added security measure. It might sound like a pain but hackers are literally waiting for any vulnerability they can get as the key into your data. Once you get a password manager, regularly changing your passwords is a breeze as the application will host and remember the information for you!
